Stallone/Schwarzenegger’s Escape Plan gets sequel…

Escape Plan

It united two of the most iconic action heroes of cinema to moderate success. ‘Escape Plan‘ is getting a sequel, but is unlikely to re-team the dynamic duo…

Escape Plan, the 2013 release which saw  – finally – Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger officially teaming up for an action outing –  was a solid, old-fashioned jailbreak story that generally impressed critics and did adequate if not stellar box-office. But there was never really talk of a sequel – until now. As revealed by industry site Deadline, it now looks as if a second chapter of the story is in the works.

However, it does seem that it won’t be a Arnold/Sly reunion for which fans might have hoped. So far, Stallone IS down to reprise his role as prison designer Ray Breslin (imprisoned by corrupt officials in the original and having to find a way out)  but this may well be in just a supporting role. Schwarzenegger’s inmate ‘Rottmayer’ does not appear to be a part of the equation agreed so far. Any and all deals are likely to be completed soon as the current plan is to start filming in March, with pre-production in January. Given the reported investment by Chinese firms in the project, that aspect may factor in to the sequel story with the film being filmed in both Canada and China.

Miles Chapman who wrote the original is repeating the duties for the sequel though a director has yet to be announced.
