‘John Wick’ director heads to ‘Highlander’ reboot…

Highlander

We all know ‘There can be only one…‘ but there have been various names linked to a new ‘Highlander‘. It now looks like ‘John Wick‘ director Chad Stahelski could head up the franchise reboot…

Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis will continue to be involved as producers and there’s a possibility that Leitch will also be involved in some capacity via the team’s 87Eleven production and action stunt company. The project has been with Lionsgate for some time, with several high-profile directors linked to the production at one time or another- with names including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Though Lionsgate have often spoken of the immense potential of the franchise – its rich mythology, the ability to balance action, romance and drama across various time-periods and the innate love of sword-play – the pieces have never really fallen into place with those directorial names off on other projects or deals not made in the right time-frame. In the decade since the generally-considered inferior The Source, filmed in Lithuania in 2006 and released a year later amid much gnashing of teeth, there have been comics and books and fan projects that have kept the fandom and interest alive, but even the most die-hard fan wondered if the cinematic would ever transpire.

Readers know we’ve always been hugely supportive of the franchise, so fingers remain crossed that Stahelski (and Leitch) with the background in and drama can bring those pieces together into a cohesive, entertaining – and long-overdue – whole.
