Walton Goggins always makes a good bad guy and his next project sees him going up against the world’s most famous archaeologist-turned-adventurer (since Indiana Jones), ‘Lara Croft‘…
He’s made a name for himself playing deeply flawed but compelling characters in the likes of Justified and The Shield. But now Walton Goggins has landed the key role as the main antagonist in the reboot of the Lara Croft franchise. Roar Uthaug, who helmed the impressive Norwegian drama The Wave, is set to direct.
The film, which is due to arrive in cinemas in March 2108, is a total restart of the games-to-movie franchise and will feature Alicia Vikander as a younger Lara on her first adventure. Angelina Jolie famously appeared in two films as the character in 2001 and 2003 and there’s been much talk of a reboot for some time – especially given that the character continues to be a hit in her original games-format.
Vikander, who rose to prominence in films such as the Oscar nominated films Ex Machina and The Danish Girl as well as appearing in Jason Bourne and The Light Between Oceans beat out a lot of other contenders for the much sought-after role as the archaeologist-turned-action-hero. Little is known about the exact role Goggins will play, but he’s the chief villain of the piece. As yet, no other names have been formally attached to the project.
