Hello, Dolly? Cult villain ‘Chucky’ is back to raise some Hell…

Cult of Chucky

Once upon a time there was a nice story about Andy and the toys he loved. But enough about ‘Toy Story‘…. the flipside is the horror-legend that was ‘Chucky‘ and now he’ll be back for Hallowe’en…

They might not really fall under the purview of being ‘action’ , but the chapters of the Chucky franchise were something of a guilty pleasure to many – the pint-sized murderous doll establishing his blood-slaying credentials alongside his more prominent (and, let’s be brutally honest here, taller) peers such as Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger.

Voiced by veteran character actor , he made his debut in 1988’s Child’s Play which also starred the likes of Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon and Jack Colvin (‘Mr, McGee, don’t make me angry!‘). The film was for catching the attention of those campaigning against violence in the movies and ‘video nasties’… but the story of a demonic doll and his campaign of terror struck a nerve among fans as well… with the film hell-spawning Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of , Seed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky to varying degrees of cult success.

But like all good demonic entities, it’s hard to shake them off entirely and it seems that Chucky will be back for more mayhem with the announcement that Cult of Chucky will begin filming in Canada later this month. Brad Dourif will return to voice the character and Entertainment Weekly says that other familiar faces are also back in the mix, including daughter Fiona Dourif as heroine Nica, Jennifer Tilly and Alex Vincent (who played the original film’s owner ‘Andy’).

The story is believed to focus on Fiona Dourif’s Nica Pierce who is in an asylum, now convinced that she was the killer all along and not Chucky. But when a psychiatrist reintroduce a familiar looking doll to help her rehabilitation… well, you know things aren’t going to go well. Alex Vincent’s Andy, aware of the strange truth races against time to save her as the bodies mount up within the asylum, but Chucky has allies of his own who will stop at nothing to prevent Andy getting there in time…

Don Mancini, who wrote and directed the original film and its two most recent sequels is back in the director’s chair for this as well.

Here’s the teaser for the film which the production team intend to be ready for Hallowe’en 2017…
