Spider-man: Homecoming

More Marvel news in a week when the studio and comics company has been unveiling a raft of revelations about future plans. SONY have announced their next Spider-man movie…

The deal between SONY and Marvel will start to see its rewards with Spider-man‘s appearance in next month’s Captain America: Civil War. But beyond that, what are the plans for the webhead? It’s just been announced that SONY‘s first outing of the reworked character will be called Spider-man: Homecoming, with Jon Watts directing and Tom Holland reprising the role  for which he’ll make his debut in Civil War. In May’s release we will see Robert Downey Jnr’s Tony Stark, seated in Aunt May’s kitchen and telling Peter Parker he’s won a grant to help further the young would-be scientist’s interest in technology – something Stark himself thinks he could benefit from. Marisa Tomei appears in the role of Aunt May, also expected to be back for the SONY movie.

“It really is a homecoming…” Holland told the CinemaCon 2016 the movie-theatre-industry convention taking place this week in Las Vegas, “…because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.”

What will the solo-outing story involve more specifically? We don’t know as yet, but it does seem that Zendaya, the young American actress, singer, dancer, and model, is also set to play a part in the film which is only referred to – so far – as ‘Michelle’. There’s also rumours that Michael Keaton (Batman, Birdman) is being courted for the role of the main villain.

Spider-man: Homecoming is set for release through SONY on 7th July 2017
