Catching up with some of the stories we’ve missed over the last few days… here’s the latest on Marvel’s merry mutant plans for Wolverine…
There’s been interesting news regarding ‘Wolverine‘ over the last few days. The rumours – at first denied, or at least downplayed – that the character would turn up in X-Men: Apocalypse appear to have been confirmed with the final teaser trailer for the forthcoming film finishing with those infamous claws making an appearance (see below).
News regarding the next standalone Wolverine film continues to move forward. As well as the previously announced Boyd Halbrook (Narcos) playing the main villain and the appearance of Patrick Stewart reprising the role of Charles Xavier we now know that there’s some more eclectic casting in the works. Richard E. Grant and Stephen Merchant have both been announced, though it hasn’t been revealed who they are playing.
David James Kelly is the man penning the script for the next film with James Mangold returning to direct after the successful The Wolverine in 2013. There are persistent rumours, fueled by comments from those involved, that the story will take place in the future though it looks less likely that it will follow the Old Man Logan story that originally ran in the comics and dealt with a post-apocalyptic world.
Jackman has confirmed that this next Wolverine movie (due in March 2017) is likely to be his last in the role – having previously played the character in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, cameo-ing in X-Men: First Class, rebooted in The Wolverine and playing a central role X-Men: Days of Future Past.
