She’s made her name in key action and dramatic roles, but now Michelle Yeoh will be boldly going to the new ‘Star Trek‘ series ‘Discovery‘, but not the role many initially presumed…
Over the last twenty-four hours or so there’s been much speculation that the next Star Trek series had found its captain and that she would be a ‘known’ high-profile name.
It seems that was partly true as industry site Deadline now says that Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) will take a command position for Star Trek: Discovery which begins shooting shortly. However there’s a slight wrinkle in the prediction with the site saying that Yeoh will actually play the part of Captain Han Bo, in command of a different Starfleet vessel, the Shenzhou, which is to play a major part in the first season of the show.
There’s still remarkably little known about the exact nature of the latest spin-off. It does seem that Discovery will be set shortly before events depicted in the iconic original series and will actually focus more on a female Lieutenant Commander on the ship of the same name and bearing the ‘Number One’ moniker that has marked several key supporting characters / second in command positions over the years. It is believed that character will be non-white with both outgoing show-runner Bryan Fuller and replacements Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts all confirming a commitment to diversity for a show that has already been sold around the world.
The show was originally due to debut as part of CBS All Areas subscription package in January, but has been pushed back to May to fine-tune the story, characters and pacing
